Let’s hope that “Nine Lives” thing is true…

It’s been a really bad week for the Torretta Klock household. Our very special friend, Eekamouse, is dangerously ill. He’s been in the animal hospital for the past week, and we’ve had to have some really difficult discussions about his care and the lengths to which we are willing to go (and spend) to save his life.

The thing is, Eekamouse is so much a part of our lives; he is an integral piece of the family we have come to be. He has traveled half-way across the country with us in a U-Haul, lived in cramped apartment spaces with us, and kept us company in new places where we hadn’t yet met any friends. We love coming home to him every day.

This week, we keep seeing his fat body out of the corner of our eyes even though he’s not here. We hear his welcome meow when we enter the apartment. We imagine him purring from his favorite spot on top of our couch.  It’s lonely without that cat around.

We want Eekamouse to be around long enough for Jack to remember him. He’s an eight-year-old cat, and if he can beat this lung infection he’s caught (it’s called Pyothorax), he can live a long and healthy life. Maybe Jack’s first word will be “Eek.” That thought alone is enough for us to do whatever it takes to make him better. We aren’t ready to say good-bye.
