And Then There Were Three

Andy treds a bit lightly because he knows that I’m mourning a little bit the lack of girl in my womb and a bit overwhelmed by the fact that I’m to be a refugee in a house full of boys. But when he thinks I’m not looking, I watch him fist punch the air and give himself a victory high-five, like, Woohoo! Uh-huh, that’s right! Hear me roar! He’s loving every minute of this, the pregnancy, the new boy on the way. He loves touching my belly, can’t wait for me to get bigger because he truly, honestly adores the sight of it.

Truth be told, he’s contagious.

They’ll be my boys, he says, and I’ll pile them into the Radio Flyer, and we’ll come home all dirty and sweaty and be covered in band-aids and grass stains and have Kool-Aid mustaches.

And wow. You know what? He’s so right. As nice as a girl would have been, the thought of all my boys together sounds too good to be true.
